The light unto my Path
Text: ‘Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.’ Psalms 119:105, Psalms 119:130, Psalms 19:7-8, Proverbs, 6:23
We are commanded to study, so that we may correctly interpret the word of God (II Timothy 2:15). To that end, to fully understand the lamp/light analogy the Psalmist uses in Psalms 119:105, we must first understand the history.
In ancient times, small lamps (vessels with a wick for burning inflammable liquid (like oil) to produce light), were fixed with straps and tied to the ankles. This made it possible to safely travel on stony unsafe roads when traveling at night.
The lamp is not attached just anywhere on the body, but specifically to the feet – to make walking easier.
In other words, when you apply the word (the lamp) to your life, your steps become ordered. Yet the lamp does not take away the potholes, but instead, the lamp shows you where they are.
In our Christian walk with our lord and savior Jesus Christ, the lamp is a beacon of light directed into the dark corners of our minds to warn us of danger and in turn lead us to a good life of peace and tranquility.
And as long as we keep the lamp in place, God's word will shine a light to keep us from stumbling over stony and unsafe roads in our Christian walk.
Let God’s word make that stony path straight in your life. Whether it be gossip, hate, stealing, pride, secret sins, unforgiveness, bitterness, independence, strife, stubbornness, rebellion or anything that is displeasing to God. God is coming back for a glorious church without spot, blemish or any such thing.
God’s word can make ALL things clean, pure, and spotless.
‘The word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.’
